The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has released its grant payment schedule for the first quarter of 2025. This update is vital for millions of South Africans who rely on these payments to meet basic financial needs.
Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid. This is in addition to the approximately 8 million people who receive Social Relief of Distress Grant payments.
January 2025 Grant Payment Dates
- Older Persons Grant: 3 January 2025
- Disability Grants: 6 January 2025
- Children’s Grants: 7 January 2025
February 2025 Grant Payment Dates
- Older Persons Grant: 4 February 2025
- Disability Grants: 5 February 2025
- Children’s Grants: 6 February 2025
March 2025 Grant Payment Dates
- Older Persons Grant: 4 March 2025
- Disability Grants: 5 March 2025
- Children’s Grants: 6 March 2025
SRD grant payments are normally paid in the final week of the month. However, Sassa has not yet confirmed SRD grant payment dates for 2025.
Grant Payment Amounts for 2025
The current grant amounts, as confirmed by Sassa, are:
- Older Persons Grant: R2,190 (R2,210 for recipients aged 75 and above)
- Disability Grant: R2,190
- War Veterans Grant: R2,210
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,190
- Foster Care Grant: R1,180
- Child Support Grant: R530
- Child Support Grant (Top-Up): R530 + R250
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: R370
Future Payment Schedules
As in the previous, Sassa releases grant payment dates for 12 consecutive months. These payment dates usually start from April to December of a given year as well as the first three months of the subsequent year.
This means that 2025 Sassa grant payment dates beyond March 2025 are unavailable.
However, Sassa’s grant payment policy is to pay grant beneficiaries from the second day of each month. This may be adjusted to accommodate weekends and public holidays when Sassa does not pay social grants.
It is anticipated that Sassa will release 2025 grant payment dates during March 2025.
Future Grant Payment Amounts
Each year, the Finance Minister announces two Sassa grant increases during the annual budget speech. These adjustments are implemented in April and October.
The next Sassa grant increase is set to be implemented on 1 April 2025.
