The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is pleading with private accommodation providers not to evict students. The scheme says they are processing all outstanding payments.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. The funding includes money for tuition and registration fees as several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.
The accommodation allowance helps students afford to live near their campuses, ensuring that distance isn't a barrier to their education.
However, in recent months, challenges with the payment of accommodation allowances have persisted and put students at risk from their residences.
Efforts To Prevent Student Evictions
NSFAS confirmed that bulk payments for accommodation allowances were processed by the end of May 2024 and the beginning of June 2024. The next scheduled payment, aimed at clearing all legitimate claims, is set for no later than 18 June 2024.
NSFAS administrator Freeman Nomvalo has urged landlords with outstanding payments not to evict students, assuring them that NSFAS is committed to resolving all legitimate claims this month.
These interventions are intended to provide much-needed relief to private student accommodation landlords.
They called on all landlords who have yet to submit their claims to send their queries to the dedicated email address [email protected].
