The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has revealed how Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college students will receive allowance payments in 2025. This includes the first allowance payments of the year set for February 2025.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials

How TVET College NSFAS Allowances Will Be Paid For February 2025

NSFAS will continue paying allowances directly to TVET College students using their personal banking accounts. The system was introduced in 2024 following the termination of direct payment service providers.

The allowances payment channel for TVET College students remains in their bank accounts.

The system has several advantages including a reduction in payment delays and non-payments. It is also cheaper for NSFAS to pay students using this method.

What Students Must Do To Receive NSFAS Allowance Payments

Only students whose funding has been confirmed by NSFAS and submitted registration data are eligible to add banking details on the myNSFAS portal.

Students must therefore register for their 2025 programme as soon as possible as this information will be sent by institutions to NSFAS.

Uploading Bank Details For NSFAS Allowances

Students can update their banking details on the myNSFAS portal by following these simple steps:

  1. Visit the myNSFAS portal
  2. Log in using your myNSFAS credentials.
  3. Select "Bank Account Details" under "Profile Information."
  4. Enter your bank details accurately.
  5. Click "Save."

NSFAS says students must ensure their profiles are up-to-date and submit their banking details on time to receive timely NSFAS allowance payments.

The government bursary scheme added that new students must be encouraged to open banking accounts to receive timely allowance payments.

Colleges should encourage new NSFAS-qualifying students to open bank accounts at any of the South African banking institutions.
