The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is giving students 30 days to upload their required documents for funding. Failure to upload these documents on time will result in the student losing their funding.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials
The government bursary scheme has given students 30 days to upload the documents requested by the scheme. This 30-day period starts from the date the scheme makes the request.
Students who fail to upload the necessary documents within the given timeframe will have their 2025 NSFAS applications declared invalid.
Your application would be regarded invalid should the thirty days to upload supporting documents lapse. We urge all applicants who have not yet submitted their outstanding documents to do so urgently.
How to Upload Supporting Documents for NSFAS
- Step 1: Log into your myNSFAS account.
- Step 2: Click on the “Document Upload” section.
- Step 3: Prepare your supporting documents.
- Step 4: Upload the supporting documents.
- Step 5: Submit your documents.
After uploading your documents, students can revisit the myNSFAS portal later to check the status of their application.
Which Documents Does NSFAS Require?
The required documents depend on the student’s circumstances. Below are some examples of the documents NSFAS may request:
- NSFAS Declaration Form: Completed by the Principal of the School or a Social Worker (for non-SASSA applicants).
- Orphan/Vulnerable Child Declaration Form: Completed by a Social Worker (for applicants under 18 years).
- NSFAS Consent Form: Completed by the applicant and/or their parent(s), guardian, or spouse. (Not required for SASSA recipients.)
- Court-Issued Document: Used to prove guardianship when the applicant indicates a legal guardian.
- NSFAS Declaration Form (Non-Court Appointed Guardianship): Completed by the applicant if the guardianship is not court-appointed.
- Disability Annexure Form: Completed by a certified medical doctor or qualified professional (e.g., optometrist, physiotherapist, or head of a disability unit). This form confirms the student’s disability status, details the required support, and explains how the suggested support will benefit the student.
It is important to note that students will only receive feedback on their application status after all necessary documents have been submitted and verified.
NSFAS has confirmed that SASSA grant beneficiaries are exempt from submitting supporting documents.
