If you have outstanding documents that you need to submit to NSFAS keep reading to find out how to upload them. You need to make sure that your banking details are uploaded so that you can receive your NSFAS allowances.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government bursary which is available to  underprivileged South African students who are looking to study at a public university or TVET College. They provide funding for registration, tuition and allowances, these allowances cover transport, living expenses and learning materials.

When applying to NSFAS they need students to upload supporting documents in order to approve them for funding and the bursary will often withhold any allowances unless all the necessary documents documents have been submitted and approved.

NSFAS Allowances 2025

NSFAS has also asked all students who are receiving allowances to make sure that they upload their banking details. The hated fintech-providers are no longer being used. They were the companies who students had to use in previous years to receive their allowances. Students hated them because they took off large fees and commissions.

For 2025 NSFAS will be paying allowances directly to student bank accounts. So you need to make sure that you upload your banking details on your MyNsfas web portal so that NSFAS knows which account to pay your allowance into.
