The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is responsible for the payment of grants to million of South Africans. Grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Sassa grant payments usually take place in the first week of the month from the second working day in the month. Grant payments will however not be made on weekends and public holidays.
For July, Sassa grant payments will take place on 2, 3 and 4 July for Older Persons Grants, Disability Grants and Child Grants, respectively.
Sassa payments for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will take place in the last week of the month, excluding public holidays and the weekend.

Upcoming Sassa Grant Increase
Earlier in the year, Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana announced that Sassa grants will be increased twice for 2024, once on 1 April and again on 1 October.
In October, all Sassa grants except the SRD grant, Foster Care grant and Child Support grant will receive a Sassa increase of R10.
These Sassa increases mean that for the 2024/2025 financial year, the government's planned expenditure on grants includes R107 billion for the old-age grant, R89.0 billion for social security funds, R85.8 billion for the child support grant, R73.4 billion for other grants, R22.0 billion for provincial social development, and R10.1 billion for policy oversight and grant administration.
Sassa Grant Payment Options
Sassa beneficiaries can choose to have their Sassa grant be paid directly to their bank account.
Sassa grant beneficiaries can also collect their Sassa social grants at several payment points. These payment points include ATMs and retail stores such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite and Boxer.
