IEB matric results carry significant weight with universities both in South Africa and internationally due to their academic rigour and adherence to high standards. Many students who undertake IEB exams subsequently gain admission to prestigious universities both in South Africa and overseas.
In 2023, the IEB Matric class achieved an overall pass rate of 98.46%.
All successful candidates in the 2023 IEB NSC examinations have achieved a pass allowing them access to tertiary education at one of three levels: 88.59% attained a degree pass 8.31% achieved a diploma pass and 1.57% secured a higher certificate pass.
A total of 15,186 learners sat for the IEB exams in October and November. This comprised 12,580 full-time and 945 part-time candidates.
The quality of the 2023 IEB NSC examinations was ensured by Umalusi, the quality and assurance body, which conducted moderation of question papers, supervised the writing of the examinations, verified the marking, and standardised marks.
The IEB emphasised the role of Umalusi in reviewing and accrediting their assessments and examinations, ensuring compliance with national standards and upholding the integrity of the education system.
