Thinking about enrolling in an academic programme related to Psychology, Coaching, Human Resource Management or Business Management? If the answer is yes then the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) may be the institution for you.

Careers Portal spoke to students and staff at the institution to gain some insight into what SACAP is like and what the student life feels like.

You might be at the stage where you've completed matric, you're applying to universities but you're not quite sure which path you want to take. You might then have heard about SACAP and were intrigued by what they offer. This is one SACAP student's experience, Joel Peter, who is now a third year SACAP student as well as the chairperson of the Student Representative Council at SACAP's Johannesburg campus.

When you're considering SACAP and you let them know that you're interested, you will receive quick correspondence from them and find out what you can do with your future qualification and how you can use it.

SACAP offers various degrees from higher certificates, diplomas, postgrad degrees as well as Bachelor degrees, the most common one is the BAppSocSci, majoring in either Counselling and Psychology or Human Resource Management and Psychology or Psychology and Business.

There are other courses and degrees as well in the Bachelors space, like the Bachelor of Social Work, the Bachelors degree of Psychology, Honours programmes, academic honours and a BPsych equivalent.

On his student experience, Joel says:

It's a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun initiatives on campus. In terms of the academics, I've thoroughly enjoyed being an academic student at SACAP. Coming to SACAP, it applied my knowledge. So it allowed me to engage with the literature, with articles, with whatever I was reading and apply it practically.

SACAP offers their students an abundance of support in the form of peer assisted learners, their Student Support Development services, student counsellors and more. Peter says, "It's an amazing experience knowing that there's always an institution that has your back and you're not always just another number".

When you start your student journey at SACAP, you take part in their siblings programme. All new students are paired up with a SACAP sibling and they will then have someone that they can casually connect with and take away from the seriousness of coming into higher education.

Head to the SACAP directory page to find out more about SACAP application, courses and fees.
