Established in 1997, the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) is an independent provider of Applied Psychology education. They offer a wide range of registered and accredited courses ranging from Higher Certificates, Diplomas, Undergraduate Degrees, Postgraduate Qualifications and specialised programmes.
Careers Portal recently sat down with SACAP to talk all things SACAP.
SACAP offers a variety of courses across the NQF so all the way from NQF 5 through to NQF 9, which is a Masters level qualification, within three current faculties that exist:
- Applied Psychology Faculty
- Management and Leadership Faculty
- Social Work and Community Development Faculty
Applied Psychology Faculty
This is SACAP's oldest and biggest faculty. They offer everything from the higher certificate NQF 5, which is a higher certificate in counselling and communication. Then there's a diploma, a bachelors degree, an honours degree and then the professional programme that exists is the BPsych equivalent and the BPsych programme.
Management and Leadership Faculty
Through the Management and Leadership faculty, SACAP offers courses in coaching, Business Management and Human Resource Management.
Social Work and Community Development Faculty
Within the Social Work and Community Development Faculty, SACAP has a social work qualification which is a Bachelor of Social Work and also a Masters in Community Mental Health Promotion.
All SACAP's courses have an underpinning of the application of psychology in these various inter-disciplinary spaces.
Are SACAP's courses accredited?
Just like all of the public Universities, SACAP works with the same regulators and governing bodies. They are registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training and their qualifications are all approved by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and they're all also on the SAQA NQF Framework.
SACAP's classes are small which means that students receive maximum support and attention from their lecturers. They have facilitative learning with educators all having experience in the field, bringing their real-life experiences into the classroom.
Zerina Royeppen, the Managing Director of SACAP, says, "It's not about didactic learning. It's all about understanding your world. What we talk about is learning from the inside out. Transforming our students from the inside out so that they can go out and make a difference in the world."
