The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides bursaries and loans to those wanting to study further at a public TVET College or university. Part of the NSFAS funding is allowances.
NSFAS provides allowances for student needs such as learning materials, accommodation, transport and meals.
Before students can get their NSFAS allowance payments, they need to submit bank account details so that NSFAS can pay their allowances into their accounts directly. Students who have been going through this process might have seen a 'Pending Verification' NSFAS status.
'Pending Verification' Meaning
Students who have uploaded their bank details will see a 'Pending Verification' NSFAS status or this would mean that you still need to if you haven't yet. This means that NSFAS is verifying the bank details you provided with the bank of your choice.
NSFAS has however said about failed verification:
If you have received a notification that your banking verification has failed, you need to urgently update the correct banking details on the myNSFAS portal.
Students must upload their own banking details, and not someone else's.
How To Submit Bank Details For NSFAS Allowances
- Visit the NSFAS website
- Click on 'myNSFAS portal'
- Log in using your myNSFAS account username and password
- Click on 'bank account details' which you can find under 'Profile information'
- Fill in your banking details for your bank account
- Click on 'Save'
Once you finish this process, NSFAS will then verify the information you submitted to check for successful submission of your banking details. NSFAS will then let you know once this verification process is finished and start the process of paying NSFAS allowances.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This funding not only includes money for tuition and registration fees but also includes several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.
Many students rely on NSFAS allowances for basic necessities like food and accommodation, and recent payment issues have caused significant distress.
