Students who are looking to receive funding assistance from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme have been advised to select a maximum of three Higher learning institutions when submitting their applications.

This is because the provided information allows NSFAS to share funding-related information with all institutions that the applicant may have applied to study at.

Additionally, NSFAS has said that the information helps in understanding an applicant’s study decisions. This also enables NSFAS to refer unsuccessful applicants to alternative funders.

How To Submit Your NSFAS Application

Those who are yet to submit their NSFAS applications can do so using the variety of options detailed below.

  1. Go to the NSFAS website
  2. Click on the 'myNSFAS' tab.
  3. Create a myNSFAS account.
  4. Click on the 'APPLY' tab and complete the sections on the screen.
  5. Upload required supporting documents where applicable.
  6. Click on 'Submit'

For the student's application to be received by NSFAS, students have been advised to first create a myNSFAS profile, complete the application process and then submit it.

When it comes to WhatsApp, students will need to save the WhatsApp number: 078 519 8006 on their phones and start tracking their application status. Whilst students may also dial the NSFAS USSD code: *120*67327 to perform the same function.

Earlier this year the bursary scheme’s Board Chairperson, Ernest Khosa confirmed that just over 1,5 million applications were received for the 2023 academic year.

NSFAS still maintains that its simplified application process is entirely online and solely intended for students who plan on registering in any of the public universities and TVET colleges in the country.
