•    Grant bursaries if the criteria are met after verification processes. 

•    Enter into a written agreement with a borrower or applicant in accordance with the provisions of the guidelines and on the terms and conditions determined by NSFAS.

NSFAS defines the funding as a loan or bursary in order to enable the person to cover the costs connected with his or her education at a designated higher education institution. 

It also extends to cover accommodation of that person for purposes of attending the institution. 

NSFAS determines the conditions under which bursaries are granted to students, ensuring that students are provided with sufficient funds to cover their costs of tuition and accommodation at any public higher education institution.
