The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) receives over a million NSFAS applications every year. Part of the NSFAS application process if submitting NSFAS documents.
A NSFAS application is not complete if you didn't upload the supporting documentation requested by NSFAS.
NSFAS might request applicants to upload supporting documents along with their NSFAS application. NSFAS has said, "Based on the application type, the system will generate a list of required documents for upload".
Documents Needed To Apply For NSFAS
Here are the documents NSFAS could request applicants to provide:
- Copy of applicant's ID
- Copy of parents/guardians ID
- Proof of income
- Disability Annexure Form
- Students with disabilities will need to provide this document along with a medical report.
- NSFAS 2025 Consent form
- Applicants have to submit this document to give NSFAS permission to to validate all information and details provided by the applicant and parent/guardian/spouse against independent third party data source.
- NSFAS Orphan or Vulnerable Child Declaration form
- This form is only to be completed by applicants who are under the age of 18 and who are orphans OR, who are vulnerable children in that they have been exposed to abuse, neglect, exploitation, risk of violence and substance abuse.
- NSFAS Declaration form
- This form only applies to applicants who are 34 years old or younger and is used to verify parental/guardian details.
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- other documents may be required for appeal purposes
NSFAS has made it clear that affidavits will not be accepted as part of any NSFAS applications:
NSFAS does NOT accept affidavits as supporting documents.
How To Submit NSFAS Documents
The required documents will need to be submitted on the myNSFAS portal. Here's a guide on how to submit the required documents for a NSFAS application:
- Go to my.nsfas.org.za and log in using your details.
- Click on the option to 'upload outstanding supporting documents'
- Then click on the tab 'Submit Documents'
NSFAS is a government financial aid scheme which is available to underprivileged South African students who are looking to study at a public university or TVET College. They provide funding for registration, tuition and allowances, these allowances cover transport, living expenses and learning materials.
