More Than 100,000 Appeals Processed
According to Carrim, NSFAS has processed a total of 101 201 appeals so far.
The outcomes of these appeals include:
- 22 654 appeals approved
- 9 073 appeals awaiting supporting documents
- 18 108 appeals rejected
- 44 411 appeals closed, deleted, or withdrawn
“The appeals process is designed to be fair, accessible, and responsive. We encourage students with pending appeals to submit any outstanding documents promptly, as delays may impact funding and support.
“We are committed to transparency and timely communication regarding the appeals process, and regular updates are provided on our website and through our support centres,” Carrim said.
Submit Documents Before the Deadline
NSFAS warned that delays in submitting required documentation may affect both the outcome of the appeal and the timing of funding disbursements.
Students whose applications were unsuccessful can submit an appeal if they did not meet certain eligibility requirements. This includes cases where applicants did not satisfy academic progression or financial eligibility criteria.
Reasons Students May Submit an Appeal
Appeals may be considered under several circumstances, including:
- Serious medical conditions
- Traumatic personal events
- Evidence that the student is likely to successfully complete their qualification
Students with outstanding appeal documents are strongly encouraged to upload them as soon as possible to avoid missing the 31 March 2026 deadline.
Applicants can check there account status on the MyNsfas website.
