The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) currently manages approximately 19 million permanent grant payments each month. Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
In addition to the 19 million permanent grant beneficiaries, around nine million people receive the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, which serves as the sole financial support available to unemployed adults in South Africa.
While the payment of March 2024 permanent grants has been completed during the first week of the month, SRD grant payments must still be distributed to beneficiaries.
As with past months, SRD grant payments will be made during the final week of the month. However, due to Sassa’s grant payment policies, its window for making SRD grant payments will be shorter in March.
Will Sassa Be Paying Grants Over Easter?
Sassa grants will not be paid over the Easter Weekend. This is because of the Sassa grant payment policy.
According to the policy, Sassa does not pay grants on weekends or public holidays. At the end of March, there is one public holiday which prevents the payment of social grants to beneficiaries.
So When Will SRD Grants Be Paid?
SRD grant payments for March will be made between 25 March 2024 and 29 March 2024
SRD grant payments are made during the final week of the month after Sassa completes various verification checks. These verification checks seek to ensure only deserving individuals receive SRD grant payments.
Funds will take about 2 - 3 working days to reflect in the client’s account after payment has been processed.
