NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. When The Next NSFAS Application Period Will Open
Many prospective funding recipients are wondering when the next NSFAS application period will open. The answer to this question depends on the institution type a student is planning to enrol at.
Academic calendars at TVET Colleges differ when compared to universities.
This has resulted in NSFAS making different application periods available for TVET College students who are not doing full-year courses. There are special NSFAS application dates for students planning to enrol in semester and trimester courses at TVET Colleges.
On 9 July, NSFAS semester 2 applications will open for TVET College students.
NSFAS trimester 3 applications open on 2 September 2024. It's important to note that these application dates only apply to TVET College students.
NSFAS has not yet confirmed when 2025 applications will open for university students. However, it usually opens between August and November and closes in January/February the following year.
How To Apply For NSFAS
NSFAS confirmed that the application process for all remaining 2024 cycles will be the same as the method used by students for the first cycle of 2024. Therefore, students should apply through the NSFAS website on the myNSFAS portal when applications open.
NSFAS Requirements For TVET College Students
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be registered or intending to register for a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 programme.
- Students must comply with the N+Rule.
- Must not enrol for a qualification that duplicates previous state-funded learning.
- Applicants qualify if they fall within the maximum threshold of up to R350,000 of combined gross family income per annum for a bursary or R600,000 for a NSFAS loan.
