The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed the final NSFAS application dates for the 2024 academic year. TVET College students will have several opportunities during 2024 to apply for comprehensive funding from the government bursary scheme, depending on the type of qualification they're studying towards.

NSFAS offers comprehensive bursaries and student loans to eligible students enrolled in approved courses at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges.

While university students cannot apply for NSFAS funding for the 2024 academic year, students enrolled in approved courses at TVET colleges will still be able to apply for funding.

When 2024 NSFAS Applications Will Open For TVET Colleges

Students enrolling in select programmes at TVET colleges in 2024 can apply for NSFAS funding this year. NSFAS confirmed the 2024 application dates.

The purpose of this communique is to advise TVET colleges of the opening and closing dates for TVET NSFAS applications for the remaining cycles of the 2024 academic year.

The 2024 NSFAS application dates for TVET Colleges are as follows:

  • Trimester 2 to open from 13 May 2024 and close on 31 May 2024
  • Semester 2 to open from 9 July 2024 and close on 26 July 2024
  • Trimester 3 to open from 2 September 2024 and close on 20 September 2024

NSFAS explained that these application periods were aligned closely to the academic calendar allowing students to apply for funding when they start their application.

The opening and closing dates for 2024 NSFAS TVET Walk-In applications are aligned as closely as possible to the TVET academic calendar as issued by the Department of Higher Education and Training Colleges that are participating in the Centres of Specialisation programmes, should encourage participating students to also apply during the available application window.

NSFAS said students should apply for the relevant academic cycle which they intend to register in.

The method of application for all 2024 remaining cycles remains the same as the one which was utilised by students to apply for NSFAS funding for the 1st cycle of 2024, meaning the students will apply for themselves online through the NSFAS website.
