Now that May/June matric results have been released for 2024, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has opened applications for further processes should candidates be unhappy with their matric results. One such recourse is re-marks and re-checks.

Re-mark and re-check applications for May/June 2024 Matric exams opened on 7 August and will close on 20 August 2024. The cost of a remark is R116 per paper and for a recheck, it's R29 per paper.

What Is A Matric Re-check?

Asking to have your matric script rechecked means that your paper will be thoroughly reviewed so that they can confirm that all questions have been properly marked and that the marks have been accurately calculated.

What Is A Matric Re-mark?

If candidates feel as if their assigned marks do not align with their actual performance on the written papers, they can request a re-mark of their scripts. This entails a complete re-evaluation of the original answer script by a different marker.

When will the re-mark/re-check matric results be released?

The Department has confirmed that re-mark results will be available from 19 September 2024.

Candidates will only receive a new statement of results if their results improved or pass status changed after the re-mark/re-check. In this case, you can apply for a refund.

If the matric results stayed the same or decreased, no refund can be issued.

If you haven't applied for a re-mark/re-check yet but would like to, here's a guide on how to do so.

How To Apply For A Matric Re-mark/Re-check

Application forms can be obtained from the centre where the exam was written. This application can also be done online by following these steps.

  1. Visit The Government’s Official e-Services Portal
  2. Click on the education icon, which displays a graduation cap
  3. Select the Basic Education Option. This will cause several options to appear.
  4. Select Re-Mark/Recheck
  5. Fill out all the required fields in the online application and ensure all the information provided is correct.
  6. Once satisfied that all the information is correct, accept the terms and conditions by checking the designated box (√).

It's important to note that before applying online, learners can make a payment for the remark or recheck application. Their exam number must be used as their reference number when making the payment.

Candidates can also apply to view their matric exam scripts at a fee of R220 with applications for viewing closing on 20 August as well.
