Universities Release Registration Dates For 2024 Academic Year

Universities across South Africa are now preparing for the 2024 academic year and to welcome thousands of new students on to their campuses. They have now released the registration dates for the 2024 academic year.

For returning students, the registration period will run from 2 January to mid-February 2024, while first-time entering students will initiate their registration from 3 January to 15 February 2024.

Here are the university registration dates for undergraduate students for the 2024 academic year.

2024 University Registration Dates For New Students

  • University of Cape Town: 29 January - 9 February
  • Stellenbosch University: 25 January - 8 February
  • University of Pretoria: 25 January - 1 March
  • University of the Witwatersrand:
    • Once students receive a firm offer and accept it, they will then receive communication from the university to register.
  • University of Kwazulu Natal: 5 - 10 February
  • University of the Western Cape: 22 January - 2 February
  • Rhodes University: 3 & 4 February
  • Unisa: 10 January - 12 February
  • University of Johannesburg: 19 January - 9 February
  • North West University: 22 January - 9 February
  • University of the Free State: 6 - 9 February
  • Nelson Mandela University: 15 January - 29 February
  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology: 29 January – 9 February
  • University of Zululand: 29 January - 2 February
  • Vaal University of Technology: 10 – 12 January/22 – 26 January
  • Central University of Technology: 24 January - 29 January 
  • Walter Sisulu University: 22 - 26 January
  • University of Limpopo: 26 January - 2 February
  • University of Mpumalanga: 5 – 9 February
  • Sol Plaatje University: 5 February - 16 February
  • Durban University of Technology: 15 January - 9 February
  • Sefako Makgatho University: 22 January - 2 February

  • University of Cape Town: 2 January - 9 February
  • Stellenbosch University: 15 January - 8 February
  • University of Pretoria: 3 January - 1 March
  • University of the Witwatersrand:
    • Faculty of Science: 2 January - 9 February
    • Faculty of Commerce Law and Management: 3 January – 11 February 
    • Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment: 2 January - 19 February
    • Faculty of Health Sciences: Registration dates differ for courses
    • Faculty of Humanities, including School of Education: 2 January - 20 February
  • University of Kwazulu Natal: 9 January - 23 February
  • University of the Western Cape: 10 January - 9 February
  • Rhodes University: 22 January 
  • Unisa: 10 January - 12 February
  • University of Johannesburg: 15 January - 9 February
  • North West University: 29 January - 9 February
  • University of the Free State: 29 January – 12 February
  • Nelson Mandela University: 15 January - 29 February
  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology: 15 January  – 2 February
  • University of Zululand: 5 - 9 February
  • Vaal University of Technology: 15 January - 2 February
  • Central University of Technology: 30 January – 2 February
  • Walter Sisulu University: 10 January - 2 February
  • University of Limpopo: All returning students will register on the specified date for their respective faculties.
  • University of Mpumalanga: 12 -16 February
  • Sol Plaatje University: 22 January - 16 February
  • Durban University of Technology: 15 January - 9 February
  • Sefako Makgatho University: 9 - 19 January

Tshwane University of Technology, University of Fort Hare, Mangosuthu University of Technology, University of Venda have not yet made their 2024 registration dates public. However, these universities might have communicated directly with students.

With Matric results being released on 19 January 2024, first-time entering students should expect to hear soon after whether they've been accepted into the university of their choice.

To prepare for the upcoming academic year in 2024, it is advisable to consult the university academic calendar.
