Universities Release Official Calendars For 2024

The 2024 academic year is so close with thousands of students and prospective students now gearing up for the year. Universities have now given students a look into the upcoming year as 2024 academic calendars have been released.

There are 26 public universities in South Africa with it being reported that of the 26, 23 universities received almost 4.5 million applications for 2024. In 2024, the number of students expected to enrol are approximately 210 000 as this is the number of spaces available.

The Department of Higher Education is currently monitoring the universities’ approved enrolment plans. In April 2024, the Department will send out enrolment templates for universities to complete.

Registration of returning students will run from 2 January until mid-February 2024 and first-time entering students will commence with their registration from 3 January until 15 February 2024.

To be prepared for the upcoming 2024 academic year, it's a good idea to have a look at the university academic calendar.

The following South African universities are yet to publish their official 2024 academic calendars:

  • University of Mpumalanga
  • Mangosuthu University of Technology
  • Vaal University of Technology
  • University of Zululand
  • University of Fort Hare

With Matric results being released on 19 January 2024, first-time entering students should expect to hear soon after whether they've been accepted into the university of their choice.
