Parliament, in partnership with the University of South Africa (UNISA), will host a special colloquium in Cape Town to commemorate 30 years of South Africa’s Constitution.
The event, themed “Celebrating 30 Years of South Africa’s Constitution in a rapidly changing world”, is scheduled to take place on Friday at the temporary National Assembly Chamber, also known as the Dome, in Cape Town on the 22nd May
30 Years Of South Africa’s Constitution
The colloquium forms part of the national programme marking three decades since the adoption of South Africa’s democratic Constitution.
More than 250 participants from different sectors are expected to attend the event, including political leaders, academics, constitutional experts, legal professionals, civil society organisations, students and members of the diplomatic community.
Former President Thabo Mbeki, who is also the patron of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, is among the notable attendees expected at the engagement.
Focus On Democracy And Constitutional Governance
According to Parliament, the colloquium will explore issues related to constitutional advancement, democratic governance and public discourse in an evolving global environment.
The event aims to encourage discussion on the role of the Constitution in shaping South Africa’s democracy and responding to modern challenges facing society.
Details About The Constitution Colloquium
The colloquium will begin at 11:30am on Friday at the temporary National Assembly Chamber located at the corner of Commercial Road and Plein Street in Cape Town.
Members of the public who cannot attend in person will be able to follow the proceedings through Parliament’s official social media platforms and Parliament's YouTube channel.
