The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the final grant payment dates of February 2024. It is expected that 18 million people will receive grants over the next week.

Sassa distributed several different permanent grants aimed at assisting financially vulnerable people living in South Africa. Grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Permanent grants are distributed to grant recipients at the beginning of each month. Grants payments in February 2024 will commence on 2 February 2024.

While Sassa endeavours to pay grants on consecutive days, in February, this will not be possible. The payment of grants on consecutive days is not possible as Sassa does not distribute grants on weekends or public holidays.

Outstanding January 2024 Grant Payments

In January 2024, Sassa suspended the grant payments of more than 150,000 grant beneficiaries.

Sassa explained that the non-payment of 150,000 social grants stemmed from inconsistencies in grant beneficiary details.

To prevent individuals from erroneously receiving grants, Sassa decide to suspend grant payments

Sassa said if a beneficiary did not receive their January 2024 grant payment and is found to be eligible for a grant payment; they will be paid during the February payment run.

It was confirmed that they will receive a double grant payment, their outstanding January 2024 grant payment and their February 2024 grant payment.

Where To Collect Grants

Grant beneficiaries can collect their grants at ATMs and retail stores such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite and Boxer.

Sassa beneficiaries can also choose to have their Sassa grant be paid directly to their bank account.
