The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has called on social grant beneficiaries to practice caution when it comes to their grants. This comes after the agency received several complaints that beneficiaries are being defrauded.
Sassa explained that several reports have emerged of scammers posing as Sassa officials on social media. These scammers are using a deceptive website to trick beneficiaries into parting with their grant money.
The scammers are using a website called Sassaloans. They are using Sassa's colours and logo to create the illusion of authenticity and make grant beneficiaries believe they are communicating with Sassa
One of the tactics employed by these scammers is the use of a fake website, "sassa loans (.co.za)"This website claims to offer loans to Sassa grant beneficiaries, creating a false sense of legitimacy.
Sassa has cautioned beneficiaries against using the Sassa loans website.
The public must be aware that sassa loans (.co.za) is not affiliated with Sassa in any way. The official Sassa website is different, and the agency does not provide any form of loans to beneficiaries.
Sassa is calling members of the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution when approached by individuals claiming to be from the agency offering loans on social media platforms. The impersonators are skilled at creating a image of legitimacy, making it important for beneficiaries to practice caution.
To combat this growing issue, Sassa emphasised the importance of seeking information through their official channels. If beneficiaries are uncertain or suspicions about a messages they receive, it is recommended to visit the nearest local Sassa office for clarity.
Alternatively, they can use the official SASSA toll-free number, 0800 60 10 11.
