As the month of April 2024 nears it's end, it's time to prepare for the new month of May 2024. Sassa beneficiaries need to be aware of the upcoming May Sassa grant payment dates.

Sassa Payment Dates

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes several different permanent grants aimed at assisting financially vulnerable people living in South Africa. Grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grantWar Veterans grantCare Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Grant Dates For May 2024

Sassa pays grants to approximately 18 million South Africans every month. These Sassa grant payments usually take place in the first week of every month.

These are the Sassa grant dates for May 2024. 

  • Older Persons Grant - 3 May 2024
  • Disability Grants - 6 May 2024
  • Children's Grants - 7 May 2024

Sassa has confirmed that social grant payments are made from the second working day of each month. Sassa payment dates will however not be held on public holidays or weekends. 

In February 2024, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the 2024 Sassa grant increases. The announcement was made during his 2024 Budget Speech. The Social Development Minister has now confirmed the grant increases. 

The Minister Of Social Development, in terms of the Social Assistance Act 2024 (act No. 13 of 2004) as amended, with concurrence of the Minister of Finance, announced the increase in social grants.
