How Much Is Sassa Child Grant?

Sassa is responsible for disbursing grants to approximately 18 million South Africans every month. One of the grants distributed is Sassa child grants.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides financial support in the form of social grants to vulnerable South Africans.

Sassa distributes several different permanent grants aimed at assisting financially vulnerable people living in South Africa. Grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grantWar Veterans grantCare Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Child grants provided by Sassa would then include the Foster Child grant, Child Support grant and Child Support grant Top-Up.

Every year, Sassa grant increases are implemented on two different occasions. One Sassa increase comes into effect on 1 April while the other is implemented on 1 October.

Here's How Much Sassa Child Grants Are For 2024

The Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, announced the following Sassa grant increases for 2024 child grants:

Child Support Grant

  • R20 increase on 1 April
  • No increase on 1 October

Foster Child Grant

  • R50 increase on 1 April
  • No increase on 1 October

Child Support Grant (Top-Up)

  • R10 increase on 1 April
  • R10 increase on 1 October

Permanent grants are distributed to grant recipients at the beginning of each month from the second working day of the month. Sassa doesn't pay grants on weekends and public holidays.

Grant beneficiaries can collect their grants at ATMs and retail stores such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite and Boxer. Sassa beneficiaries can also choose to have their Sassa grant be paid directly to their bank account.
