The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has released the funding list for the 2023 academic year. The list consists of returning students and first-time students.

The list is available and accessible on the NSFAS portal to all tertiary institutions. Which makes it easier for institutions to confirm which students are funded by NSFAS.

NSFAS revealed that the list is part of an ongoing redress process which reviews appeals against 3rd party information to ensure that all in need of financial aid are able to access funding. Decisions on appeals are also being finalised upon receipt of third-party reports.

The scheme received an extraordinary increase in the number of applications for the 2023 academic year. Approximately 1.6 million students applied for funding.

NSFAS currently funds 1.1 million students. This is the first time NSFAS will get to simultaneously disburse funding for tuition and allowances to such a large number of students.

Allowances are provided to cover the following costs:

  • Learning materials or devices
  • Travelling
  • Food
  • Accommodation
  • Personal care
  • Living expenses

Visit the NSFAS website for more information about the bursary.
