The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened Trimester 2 applications for those who are studying, or want to study, at a TVET College.
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college students are encouraged to apply for funding before the fast-approaching deadline.
NSFAS offers multiple application periods for TVET college students throughout the year. This is because TVET college programmes may commence at different times during the academic year.
To accommodate this, NSFAS application periods are closely aligned with TVET college academic calendars, allowing students to apply for funding at the start of their programmes.
Students who want to study at university next year should not apply now as this application period is only for TVET students studying in trimester 2. Applications for university students will be open later in the year.
Trimester 2 Application Dates
- Opening Date: 12 May 2025
- Closing Date: 23 May 2025

NSFAS Requirements For TVET College Students
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be registered or intending to register for a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 programme.
- Students must comply with the N+ Rule.
- Must not enrol for a qualification that duplicates previous state-funded learning.
Applicants will only be approved for NSFAS funding if they fall within the maximum threshold of up to R350,000 of combined gross family income per annum for a bursary or R600,000 for an NSFAS loan.
NSFAS Login
Students must submit their NSFAS applications online, as the TVET walk-in application option will not be available in 2025. Unlike previous years, all applications must be completed through the myNSFAS portal with the student's NSFAS login details.
NSFAS urged students to submit funding applications, as simply creating a profile on the myNSFAS portal does not constitute a complete NSFAS application.
Additionally, students should apply for the funding cycle that corresponds with the academic term in which they plan to enrol.
