Students who submitted an appeal to be reconsidered for a bursary from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) have been provided with an update about their NSFAS appeals. The organisation is now in the process of considering these NSFAS appeals.
One way to communicate with NSFAS is through their Twitter account. One applicant who submitted a NSFAS appeal, when checking their NSFAS appeal status, saw their NSFAS status read 'rejected'. What does this mean?
Well, NSFAS made a point to say that this NSFAS status is not final as NSFAS appeals are currently being reassessed. They explained:
Appeals are being reassessed and some status are not final and subject to change.
NSFAS then recommends that applicants should continue to monitor the myNSFAS portal and check their NSFAS appeal status. Should your rejected status change, then you will possibly be funded but if the rejected status remains the same then you are not unfortunately not funded.
How To Track Your NSFAS Appeal
- Log into your myNsfas account on the NSFAS website
- Click the 'Track Funding Progress' option
- Check the application progress tabs
- You will be able to track the progress of your appeal via your myNSFAS account
It is also important to keep in touch with the Financial Aid Office of your institution online, since they will be able to provide you with updates on the status of your appeal and let you know if there are any additional documents or information that you need to provide.
What Your 'Provisionally Funded' NSFAS Status Means
If a NSFAS appeal is successful, the applicant might see their NSFAS status change to 'Provisionally Funded'. This has however caused some confusion amongst students.
The ‘Provisionally Funded’ status indicates that the student has, in fact, been approved for funding, but that NSFAS is still awaiting registration data from the student’s institution, after a student has registered for that academic year.
NSFAS has said, "Once the university or TVET college you are registered at submits your academic registration to NSFAS, payment will be made. Please proceed and register at a public institution for a NSFAS funded course."
Therefore, when a student sees this, they should take note that this is a positive outcome and that they have been deemed as qualifying for funding.
