Minister of Higher Education and Training Nobuhle Nkabane confirmed that approximately 800 TVET College students have still not received their April 2025 allowance payments. This is despite NSFAS resolving delayed payments earlier this month.
Nkabane said the 800 students belong to one TVET College. NSFAS has committed to resolving the payment delays for students at the institution by the end of April 2025.
We acknowledge that a specific group of approximately 800 students at a specific institution is experiencing challenges with the transfer of funds. The Scheme is committed to rectifying this matter by 30 April 2025.
The Minister apologised to students and acknowledged that delayed allowance payments are unacceptable. They added that efforts will be made to ensure students receive their allowance payments in a timely manner going forward.

Payment Delays
Last week, NSFAS dismissed online reports warning of payment delays as false.
A statement released on Friday labelled such posts as “fabricated information” and “aimed at causing unnecessary confusion.”
Ironically, the warning – while speculative – turned out to be partly accurate. Allowance payments were made 24 hours late, meaning students had to wait until Sunday for their payments.
While payments were made to the majority of students, the 800 students still await their April 2025 payments.
NSFAS is actively collaborating with its financial services institution to resolve this issue and prevent any recurrence in the coming months,
NSFAS reiterated that the claims of delayed payments were not based on official information and urged students to verify updates via official NSFAS platforms.
