The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides temporary financial assistance to unemployed South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 59.

To be eligible for the SRD grant, individuals must be between 18 and 59 years old and be unemployed. They may not receive any other government financial assistance, including NSFAS bursaries, UIF benefits or other Sassa grants.

SRD Grant Payment Value For October 2024

The SRD Grant received a R20 increase in April 2024, bringing the current value to R370. Beneficiaries of the SRD grant will therefore receive R370 for the month of October.

SRD grant payments are usually made in the last week of the month, excluding weekends and public holidays, after Sassa completes their verification checks.

How can I collect my SRD Grant?

You have two convenient options:

  • Direct Bank Deposit: Have your grant deposited directly into your bank account. This is typically the fastest option. However, remember it might take 2-3 business days for the funds to reflect in your account.
  • Supermarket Pickup: Collect your grant cash at authorized supermarkets like Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OKAY, or Spar.

SRD grant beneficiaries are encouraged to complete an SRD Grant Status Check to see if they have been approved for payments. This Sassa status check will also reveal the exact date you can expect SRD payment to reflect in your bank account.

How To Do A Sassa Status Check For R350 Grant Payment Date

First, visit the SASSA SRD status website for the SRD status check section. You will then be asked to fill in your ID number, as well as the cell phone number that you used when you submitted your grant application.

Hereafter, you will be able to check the progress of your grant by doing a Sassa status check. For security, you will receive a One time pin, enter the OTP to see your Sassa grant payment status.

You will also be able to see your SRD grant payment date.

Who qualifies for the SRD Grant in October 2024?

Only approved applicants will receive a payment. Sassa conducts thorough verification checks to ensure eligibility for the unemployment grant. Here's what they look at:

  • ID verification: Department of Home Affairs confirms your residency status.
  • Financial assessment: Your ID number is cross-checked with SARS, UIF, and NSFAS databases to assess your financial situation and ensure you're not receiving other government aid.
  • Fraud risk scoring: Both your ID number and mobile number are assessed to minimize fraud.

Government allocated funding for the social relief of distress grant until March 2025. There are even indications of a possible extension until March 2027.
