Who qualifies for the SRD Grant?
Only approved applicants will receive a payment. Sassa conducts thorough verification checks to ensure eligibility for the unemployment grant. Here's what they look at:
- ID verification: Department of Home Affairs confirms your residency status.
- Financial assessment: Your ID number is cross-checked with SARS, UIF, and NSFAS databases to assess your financial situation and ensure you're not receiving other government aid.
- Fraud risk scoring: Both your ID number and mobile number are assessed to minimize fraud.
Sassa SRD Verification
Sassa has introduced a new verification process for R370 Sassa grant recipients. Sassa's verification system involves randomly selecting applicants for additional checks.
These individuals receive two SMS messages, with the second containing a link for facial recognition verification. The link remains valid for only 72 hours, raising concerns for those without immediate access to smartphones or internet connectivity.
Failure to complete the verification process within the 72-hour window results in the suspension of the grant.
