How Much Sassa Grants Will Be For April, After Increases - Including Child Support Grant and SRD Grant

SASSA grants are a lifeline for millions of South Africans, providing vital financial support to fight poverty and ensure basic needs are met. All Sassa grant beneficiaries will receive an increased grant payment in April 2024.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will distribute grant payments to millions of beneficiaries in April 2024. The beneficiaries of all the social grants distributed by Sassa can look forward to increased grant payments in April.

In February 2024, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the 2024 Sassa grant increases. The announcement was made during his 2024 Budget Speech.

The minister confirmed increases for all permanent Sassa grants during the Budget Speech. This includes the increases for the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Godongwana announced an increase of R100 to the older persons, war veterans, disability, and care dependency grants (This amount will be divided into R90 effective from April, and R10 effective from October)

Additionally, they announced an R50 increase to the foster care grant as well as an R20 increase to the child support grant.

These Sassa increases mean that for the 2024/2025 financial year, the government's planned expenditure on grants includes R107 billion for the old-age grant, R89.0 billion for social security funds, R85.8 billion for the child support grant, R73.4 billion for other grants, R22.0 billion for provincial social development, and R10.1 billion for policy oversight and grant administration.

SRD Grant Increase

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, often referred to as the R350 grant, has also been increased. Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the increase on Wednesday, 13 March 2024.

Beneficiaries will see an increase from the current R350 to R370 starting April 1, 2024, marking a rise of R20 or 5.7%.

Godongwana referred to the increase as fulfilling the fundamental rights of vulnerable adults living in the country.

Older Persons grant - R2,180
Older Persons (75 years and older) - R2,200
Disability grant - R2,180
War Veterans grant - R2,200
Care Dependency grant - R2,180
Foster Care grant - R1,180

How Much Is Sassa Child Care Grant in 2024?

Child Support grant - R530
Child Support grant (Top-up) - R530 + R250

How Much is Sassa SRD Grant in 2024?

SRD Grant - R370

There are approximately 9 million beneficiaries of the SRD grant and 19 million permanent grant beneficiaries.
