The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has revealed when candidates who participated in the 2023 May/June Grade 12 rewrite examinations will receive their results. Individuals who either wrote the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams or the Senior Certificate (SC) exams will receive their results.

Registrations for the May/June exams closed on 8th February 2023 and the Matric rewrites took place in May and June, with candidates sitting for their final exams on 14th June 2023.

The department expects the marks to be issued to learners who sat for the May/June exams on Monday, 7 August 2023.

Second Chance Matric Programme

According to the department 279 000 individuals across South Africa took part in this year's matric rewrites in line with their Second Chance Matric programme.

The aim of the Second Chance Matric Programme is to provide support to learners who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC).

The programme gives matric learners who either failed their 2022 final National Senior Certificate exams or that were unhappy with marks for certain exams another chance, without having to return to school full-time.

The initiative helps anyone of any age who wants to improve a matric qualification.

However, the DBE's Second Chance programme is more than just letting learners rewrite and offering invigilation and exam venue support. Learners who sign up for the programme had access to face-to-face learning support, online education help, and a “wide range of learning support materials.

Other benefits of the programme include:

  • Increase learner retention

  • Increase computer skills, job opportunities and career pathing

  • Learners are able to access bursary opportunities for further studies

In addition, the programme also facilitates the development of learning and teaching support materials (LTSMs) that are based on diagnostic reports, so as to ensure that the support materials focus on common areas of poor performance emanating from previous examinations.

How To Get Your Matric Rewrite Results
