The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies assured the public that the March 2025 Sassa grant payment will proceed as normal, as Sassa Gold Cards are still valid.
Sassa gold cards are set to expire on 20 March 2025. The Departing is urging beneficiaries to switch to the new Postbank Black Card before the extended 20 March 2025 deadline.
Retailers will not accept the cards for any transactions, and any attempts will result in automatic system transaction declines. The gold cards will also not be accepted by any ATM, and they may be swallowed when inserted into any ATM to attempt a transaction.
Beneficiaries can use Postbank’s designated outlets to complete the transition.
Progress on Card Replacement
As of Friday, 28 February 2025, 854 248 new cards were issued marking an increase of more than 100 000 cards in just one week.
In Gauteng, one of the provinces with the highest number of beneficiaries, Postbank has already achieved a 58% card replacement conversion rate.
How to Find a Sassa Card Replacement Site
Beneficiaries can locate the nearest card replacement site by following these steps:
- Dial *120*335#
- Reply with (1) to continue
- Reply with the number of the province where they want to find a card replacement site
- Reply with the municipality number to view all available replacement sites in that municipality
Where to Get a New Sassa Card
Postbank provided the following instructions for beneficiaries to locate a card replacement centre:
- Step 1: Dial *120*355#
- Step 2: Select option 1
- Step 3: Choose your province
After completing these steps, beneficiaries will see a list of locations where new cards are issued.
When collecting a new Sassa card, bring your ID (or a temporary ID if the original is lost). If collecting on behalf of someone else, bring the official Sassa proxy letter. Asylum seeker grant beneficiaries should bring the official Sassa approval letter.
Beneficiaries need a valid ID or temporary ID to receive their Postbank Black Card. Those who have lost their IDs should obtain a temporary ID.
