Millions of people rely on social grants to survive every month. Sassa grant payments for March 2025 has commenced.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has commenced with social grant payments for March 2025. Millions of beneficiaries will be paid monthly social grants this week.

Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

This is in addition to the approximately 8 million individuals who receive the temporary Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. 

Grant payments will commence with the Older person's grant payments. This will be followed by Disability grant payments on Wednesday and Children's grant payments on Thursday.

While Sassa endeavoured to pay social grants from the second day of the month, this was impossible for March 2025. Their grant payment policy does not allow for grants to be paid on weekends.

Sassa Grant Payment Dates For March 2025

  • Older persons - 4 March 2025
  • Disability Grants - 5 March 2025
  • Children's grants – 6 March 2025

Sassa Grant Increases

Every year during the Budget Speech, the Finance Minister announces Sassa grant increases. These increases usually are implemented on 1 April and 1 October.

The Sassa increases for 2025 have not yet been confirmed. This is because the budget speech was postponed. Increased Sassa grant payment amounts will likely be announced on 12 March 2025, when the 2025 budget is set to take place.

Sassa SRD Grant Payment Dates For March 2025

Sassa has also released the SRD grant payment dates for March 2025. . 

The agency said approved SRD grant applicants will receive SRD grant payments from 26 March until 28 March.

SRD grant beneficiaries are encouraged to complete an SRD Grant Status Check to see if they have been approved for payments in March 2025. This SRD grant status check will also inform you of the exact date to expect your SRD grant payment in your bank account.

Sassa confirmed that Sassa gold cards will remain active for March 2025 social grant payments. This will come as welcomed by many beneficiaries who face uncertainty regarding their grant payments as the validity of Gold cards is set to expire.
