The 2024 final matric exams kicked off on Monday, 21 October, and ended on the 28th of November. Almost 840 000 public school candidates sat down to write their National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams in 2024 for 150 subjects.

The Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, announced that the Matrics of 2024 achieved an impressive pass rate of 87.3%, an increase of 4.4% from last year’s matric pass rate of 82.9%.

Matric results were made available to candidates on the morning of 14 January.

Matric Re-marks And Re-Checks

If you're not satisfied with your matric results, or if you think there might have been an error, you can apply for a re-check or re-mark. The fees are R120 per paper for a remark and R30 per paper for a recheck. The deadline for these applications is 21 January 2025.

How To Apply For A Matric Re-mark/Re-check

Application forms can be obtained from the centre where the exam was written. This application can also be done online by following these steps.

  1. Visit The Government’s Official e-Services Portal
  2. Click on the education icon, which displays a graduation cap
  3. Select the Basic Education Option. This will cause several options to appear.
  4. Select Re-Mark/Recheck
  5. Fill out all the required fields in the online application and ensure all the information provided is correct.
  6. Once satisfied that all the information is correct, accept the terms and conditions by checking the designated box (√).

It's important to note that before applying online, learners can make a payment for the remark or recheck application. Their exam number must be used as their reference number when making the payment.

If you’re unhappy after a re-mark or re-check, you can even request to view your exam script for a fee of R230. Just make sure to apply within 7 days after those results are out.

Re-mark results will be released from 7 March 2025, and you can collect them at the same school or exam centre where you wrote your exams.

Matric Rewrites

If you’re thinking about rewriting a paper to improve your results, the May/June 2025 matric exam rewrite is your opportunity. Applications for this will open as soon as you get your matric results and close on 7 February 2025.
