The DBE says matric exam marking is a critical part of ensuring the credibility and fairness of the NSC exams. More than 55,000 qualified markers were appointed and will work across 188 marking centres nationwide.
These markers have been selected based on strict criteria to ensure that only experienced and qualified educators participate in the marking process.
Part of the matric exam marking process of the Marking Standardisation Meetings (MSMs). These meetings seek to ensure consistency and fairness. These meetings are held for each subject.
These meetings will bring together subject specialists and chief markers to ensure that all marking is aligned with agreed-upon standards.
The DBE announced that external moderators from Umalusi will monitor the process to ensure that the quality and accuracy of the marking do not vary across provinces.
It is anticipated that Matric Exam marks will be captured by 16 December 2024
