The qualification we get once we've completed the required years of schooling is known as the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and is ranked at NQF level 4 by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
The NQF is the South African qualification system which was introduced to ensure that your achievements are tracked and recognised.
NQF levels range from levels 1-10, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. NQF levels 1-4 represent the certificates you can achieve whilst still in school.
Here Are The Different Certificates You Can Get In School:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) (NQF level 4)
- This qualification is awarded to learners who have completed Grade 12
- Senior Certificate (SC) (NQF Level 4)
- Awarded to people who have finished their matric year after the age of 21
- General Education Certificate (GEC) (NQF Level 1)
- This Qualification provides a foundation certificate for learners in the General Education and Training (GET) and is obtained once the learner has completed Grade 9.
- Elementary Certificate (NQF Level 2)
- This is a result of completing Grade 10.
- Intermediate Certificate (NQF Level 3)
- Rewarded to students after completion of Grade 11.
NQF levels 5-10 represent the qualifications that you can obtain at a higher education institution. These include higher certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, honours, bachelor's and doctorate degrees.
