Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, is an independent body responsible for ensuring quality in education and training in South Africa.a
One of Umalusi’s key functions is to issue replacement matric certificates.
How To Get Your Umalusi Matric Certificate
Umalusi has made it easy to get a replacement matric certificate by providing the steps candidates must follow to ensure a quick replacement.
Step 1: Register an Account
To begin, create an account on the Umalusi portal. This account allows you to track and manage your application seamlessly.
Step 2: Submit a Request
Once registered, create a request for the replacement certificate. Specify the qualification you are applying for, such as:
- National Certificate Vocational
- National Certificate (N3)
- National Senior Certificate
- Senior Certificate
- General and Further Education Certificate
- Amended Senior Certificate
- ABET Level 4
Required Documents
- Affidavit: Include a signed affidavit from a police station stating the status of the original certificate (e.g., stolen or lost during a move).
- Certified Copy of ID: Provide a certified copy of your identity document. Ensure it is certified by a commissioner of oaths.
Delivery Method: Choose your preferred method for receiving the replacement certificate:
- Collection from the Umalusi Pretoria office.
- Courier service (additional fees apply).
Step 3: Collect the Certificate
Depending on your chosen delivery method, either collect the replacement certificate in person or receive it via courier service.
Umalusi reminds applicants that certificates are not issued on the same day as the application. Under normal circumstances, processing takes between one and six weeks.
Applications for certificates obtained before November 1992 must be made through the relevant Department of Education.
The procedure remains the same, but the certificate will be printed by the respective Assessment Body. Processing time for these requests typically takes between one and three weeks.
It's important to note that once a replacement certificate is issued, the previous certificate is invalidated. If the original certificate is later found, it is no longer valid
