There are solutions available for students who were unable to earn their matric certificate.

Students can apply at a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college that offer courses without a matric certificate required. A National Certificate (Vocational) (NC(V)) qualification can then be obtained to allow students to hone their skills within their chosen career field.

Additionally, with a NCV qualification, a student will be able to move into a higher education course within the same areas.

The NCV has different levels that include:

  • NCV Qualification on NQF Level 2: Equivalent of grade 10.
  • NCV Qualification on NQF Level 3: Equivalent of grade 11.
  • NCV Qualification on NQF Level 4: Equivalent of grade 12.

However, in order to study at a TVET College without a matric student must:

  • Be at least 16 years or older
  • have completed grade 9 or have an ABET Level 4 certificate

Here are the courses you can take at a TVET College without having a matric certificate:

  • Management Course
  • Computer Science Courses
  • First Aid Courses
  • Health Courses
  • Forensic Courses
  • Creche Management Courses
  • Interior Design and Decorating Courses
  • Photography Courses
  • Child Day Care Courses
  • Bookkeeping Courses
  • Accounting Courses
  • Adult Matric
  • Beauty Therapy Courses
  • Finance Courses
  • Child Psychology Courses
  • Educare and Child Care Courses

Students need not give up and think not having a matric qualification means it is the end of their educational journey. There are plenty of options, take a leap of faith and pursue the career of your dreams.
