The University of South Africa (Unisa) provides Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) designed for swift and effective skill and knowledge development in specific subject areas.

These SLPs are available in several different academic departments of Unisa's colleges and are offered and administered by the Centre for Lifelong Learning. These non-degree programmes adopt a "just enough" learning approach, catering to unique learning needs or employment requirements within various academic departments.

Covering various fields such as law, leadership, education, management, safety, and finance, these programmes present comprehensive opportunities for skill development and knowledge enhancement for interested individuals.

Requirements For Unisa Short Learning Programmes

Unisa sets specific requirements for its courses, programmes and workshops, which can vary based on the programme. Here are some common types of requirements across different offerings:

Short Learning Programmes

SLPs are generally introductory and practical, often requiring a minimum educational background. Some may have specific prerequisites or recommended prior knowledge, outlined in the programme details.

Applicants may need to provide proof of identity (ID or passport) and relevant academic qualifications, such as school certificates.

Advanced Courses and Programmes

Advanced courses and programs may require foundational knowledge in the subject area. Requirements may include a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience. Some advanced programmes might have prerequisites or require completion of specific courses.

Workshops/Seminars

Workshops and seminars may target a broad audience, and their requirements can vary. Some may have no specific prerequisites, while others might cater to professionals in a specific field and necessitate relevant experience.

Applying For Unisa SLPs

To apply for admission to Unisa SLPs, individuals, whether first-time applicants or those transitioning between programmes, must submit online applications. Registration is currently open, allowing applicants to apply for a maximum of two SLPs, with the option to accept or decline offers within the specified period.

Applicants are required to scan and upload required documents, such as school qualifications, academic records, and identification, to an electronic device. Unisa reserves the right to request original documents for verification, and adherence to the POPI Act mandates communication through the myLife email account for registered students.

Following the application process, Unisa will assess and inform applicants of the outcome. Successful applicants undergo temporary registration, receiving a "Temporarily Registered" (TP) letter via email, which indicates the required fee for registration.

Applicants encountering issues viewing the TP letter on smartphones are advised to use the latest Adobe Reader app version and can seek assistance from the Unisa Centre for Lifelong Learning if needed.

Beyond SLPs, Unisa offers a diverse range of educational programmes, including Advanced Courses, Advanced Programmes, Courses, Short Courses, Programmes, and Workshops/Seminars.
