Unisa opened applications for anyone wanting to study towards a Short Learning Programme, Unisa's short courses, in 2024. Unisa is an open distance e-learning university, which allows students to pursue their studies by using online resources and study materials provided by the institution.

Applications for Unisa short courses, which they call 'Short Learning Programmes' are now open. This application period will close on 28 February 2024.

This gives anyone interested just over a month to apply.

Unisa says their short learning programmes, "focus on 'just in time' and 'just enough' learning to meet a specific learning need identified by individuals, organizations or society at large". These programmes are run through Unisa's Centre for Lifelong Learning (UCL).

Many certificates, degrees and diplomas at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels are on offer, and you can also complete short courses which can help gain skills to further your career while employed. 

Unisa Short Courses

The following faculties offer short courses:

  • Accounting Sciences
  • Agriculture and Environmental Sciences
  • Economic and Management Sciences
  • Education
  • Human Sciences
  • Law
  • Science, Engineering and Technology
  • Other, Administration and Professional

Who can apply?

Everyone wanting to start a new Short Learning Programme must apply for admission. This includes:

  1. First-time Unisa applicants.
  2. Unisa students changing to a new Short Learning Programme.
  3. Applicants who previously applied for admission but were not offered a space.

How To Apply

  1. Go to the Unisa website
  2. Click on 'Apply'
  3. Under Short Learning Programmes, click on 'Find Out More'
  4. Under 'How to apply?', click on 'CLICK HERE to apply online'
  5. Click on the bubble next to 'Short Learning Programmes'
  6. Follow the prompts
  7. Submit your documents

All applicants starting a new qualification must upload all the required documents, which generally consists of the following:

  • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
  • Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID / passport (international students)
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans

There is no application fee when applying for Unisa's Short Learning Programmes.
