The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme that promotes teaching in public schools. The bursaries are provided so that eligible students may complete a teaching qualification in an area recognised as priority.

University can cost a lot of money, taking into consideration learning material, transport costs, accommodation and living expenses. The Funza Lushaka Bursary can take care of those for you. 

So how long the Funza Lushaka Bursary will fund you?

The answer is that the bursary is awarded for one academic year at a time and the bursary will only be renewed if you send them proof of good academic performance. Funza Lushaka will fund a recipient until they have qualified as a teacher. 

This means that you will have to apply for the renewal of the bursary every year.

The Bursary has stated that there is no automatic promise of financial support for a fifth year of study i.e. beyond the fourth year of study. 

They fund the following programmes:

  • Bachelor of Education (BEd)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

 All first time applicants must be 30 years or younger to apply for the Funza Lushaka Bursary. 

Applicants for this bursary must have been accepted into a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) qualification at an accredited public university, to qualify for funding.
