Bursaries are awarded to students based on the employment needs of the company. All students studying full-time are viewed as potential applicants depending on the vacancies available after successfully completing their qualification.

What does a Transnet bursary cover?

  • Students are allowed to study at any South African academic institution of their choice. The comprehensive bursary will cover expenses such as:
  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation and meals
  • Textbooks
  • Experiential learning 

How do I apply for a Transnet bursary?

  • You must be a South African Citizen
  • You must meet the standard for entry in your chosen field at the institute
  • You have already partially completed some kind of qualification and thus are higher than the normal achiever
  • A valid South African ID

How are applicants awarded a Transnet bursary?

The Transnet bursary department will screen all applicants. All candidates need to meet the requirements to qualify for the bursary. The selection of the applicants will be based on your academic performances either at a secondary or tertiary level. Once you have been selected, you will be invited for an interview which will either take pace in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein ,Cape Town or Durban depending on where you reside. The final selection and award will be based on the interview, academic results and medical fitness of the candidate. 

What is expected from the candidate?

Students are obliged to undertake a 1 year service for every financial reward received from Transnet after completing their qualification. Should a student not qualify for any subject, the repeated module must be done at the students own cost and the bursary will be terminated. Should a student fail to comply with the agreed requirements of the bursary, it will become payable in terms of the agreement. The bursary will also be reviewed annually by the sponsor if the students academic performance is satisfactory.
