The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme which promotes teaching as a profession. The bursaries are provided so that eligible students may complete a teaching qualification in an area recognised as priority.

You may be wondering whether the students at the University of South Africa (Unisa) can be funded by the Funza Lushaka Bursary because it makes use of distance learning. The answer is yes they can. 

Unisa is a university that makes use of distance learning. In terms of its academic offering, Unisa offers a combination of career-orientated courses usually associated with a university of technology, combined with general formative academic programmes typically linked to a traditional university.

The university offers many certificates, degrees and diplomas. Degrees are offered at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. 

So if you plan to study at Unisa or are currently enrolled there to pursue a career in Education and Teaching then apply for the Funza Lushaka Bursary now!

The eligibility criteria are as follows:

Any academically gifted, young -

  • learners, currently in Grade 12;
  • graduates who want to complete a teaching qualification (enroll for a PGCE);
  • people who want to make a career change and become teachers; and
  • unemployed people who want to become teachers.
