The Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) was established to assist poor and middle-class students with the costs of tertiary education. This assistance does not only apply to the costs associated with tertiary education but extended to support for students.

The ISFAP bursary will cover a student's full university fees and contribute to paying the accommodation costs. Students also receive a stipend and money for books and meals.

ISFAP also provides students with academic support (tutorials; academic development and extended programmes), social support, life skills training, mentoring (first-year experience), medical support (psycho-social support) and access to dedicated programme managers.

Students who form part of the missing middle and study at selected institutions are encouraged to apply for the comprehensive ISFAP funding.

To date, ISFAP has funded more than 2,500 students, of which 686 have graduated after completing their qualifications.

Will ISFAP Fund A Student More Than Once?

ISFAP aims to assist students with the cost of obtaining a qualification. When referring to funding a student more than once, it refers to if ISFAP will fund a student for a second qualification.

For example if a student was funded for a bachelor of education, would they be funded for another, eg. Bachelor of science?

The answer is No. ISFAP will not fund a student more than once.

ISFAP CEO Morné Du Toit said it would be unfair to fund one student for more than one qualification.

Du Toit said, “We will not fund a student more than once. The needs out there are just too much, that I do not think it is fair to fund the same student more than once.”

Applicants wanting to apply for the ISFAP bursary are reminded that the programme only covers selected courses.
