SASSA stands for the South African Social Security Agency, which is a government agency in South Africa responsible for administering social grants to eligible individuals in the country. These grants include the elderly grant, disability grant, child support grant, foster child grant, and care dependency grant. SASSA was established in 2005 with the aim of ensuring that social grants reach the most vulnerable and needy members of South African society.

If your application for the South African Social Security Agency’s (Sassa) R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was rejected and you disagree with the decision then you are allowed to lodge an application appeal.

Although it is recommended that appeals be lodged within 30 days of the applicant receiving their rejected application status, they must be submitted within 90 days.

Recently, Sassa announced that an Independent Tribunal will take over the appeal for reconsideration applications process for the current cycle of the R350 grant. This means that Sassa is no longer involved with the appeals process as the Independent Tribunal is independent to them.

Sassa has emphasized that only this website can be used to submit appeals and all appeals submitted on the older SRD website should be submitted again using this new SRD website.

Once the appeal has been submitted then the Independent Tribunal will aim to finalise the appeal within 60-90 days from the date on which the appeal was received.
