The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students.

Students interested in NSFAS funding must register for an approved course at a public university or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college to benefit from the government funding scheme.

The funding provided by NSFAS includes the money for tuition and registration fees. They also include several NSFAS allowances for students that aim to cover the costs students will incur during their quest to obtain a tertiary education qualification.

This comprehensive funding package means that hundreds of thousands of students submit NSFAS applications annually.

Once applicants submit their applications, they are encouraged to check their NSFAS application status for information about whether or not they will be funded and what further actions may be required.

What Your 'Application In Progress' NSFAS Status Means

Many students have received an ‘application in progress’ NSFAS status. This is a pretty straightforward status as it indicates that NSFAS is currently evaluating your funding application.

This status not only indicates that NSFAS has received your application, but is currently verifying the authenticity of the documents you submitted in support of your application.

NSFAS is verifying all the documents you have submitted during your application.

Applicants who have not submitted all the required documents to NSFAS are encouraged to upload them without delay.

If you have any missing documents, you will need to upload them.
