NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a South African government entity that provides financial assistance to eligible students to help them pay for their tertiary education. The aim of NSFAS is to make higher education more accessible to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who may not be able to afford the cost of tuition fees and other related expenses on their own. NSFAS provides funding in the form of bursaries, which students can use to cover tuition fees, accommodation, textbooks and other necessary expenses. The scheme is managed by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training.
NSFAS has said that if you indicated that you have a legal guardian, you need to provide them with the “court-appointed legal guardianship” document or submit a Non-SASSA declaration form signed by a social worker.
The form is available and can be downloaded from the NSFAS website. It is different to the SARS - NSFAS Consent Form.
NSFAS requires personal information from agencies relating to the employment status and level of income of the parents or guardians of the applicant.
Additionally, according to NSFAS spokesperson, Kagisho Mamabolo, the bursary scheme has relocated and officially opened its new Student-Centre at the KPMG building in the Cape Town CBD by the Foreshore area last week.
It’s official. Students will have easy access to our Student Centre. Our friendly consultations will only resume face to face consultations as soon as the new site is operational.
Students can find the new NSFAS centre at 4 Christiaan Barnard Street in the Cape Town City Centre. The Centre will be open Monday to Friday from 8h30am until 5pm.
So if you are a NSFAS student funding applicant who has any additional queries relating to your application status but has no access to online resources, you can opt to visit their student centre.
NSFAS applicants have also been advised to log onto their myNSFAS account and check their NSFAS application status on there in order to register.
The NSFAS portal is continuously updated and students are therefore encouraged to visit the portal daily to check their results.

Click on MyNSFAS account and login using your ID and the password you created when setting up your profile.
You will then be able to track your application.
