The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides the NSFAS bursary which offers to cover all a student needs. This funding includes money for tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.

Seeing that "Funded" status on your NSFAS application is a huge weight off your shoulders. It means your studies are a step closer to becoming a reality! But there are a few important things to take care of to ensure your NSFAS funding gets disbursed smoothly.

This article will guide you through the next steps after receiving your "Funded" NSFAS status, helping you maximize this incredible opportunity.

What A "Funded" NSFAS Status Means

A "Funded" status means that NSFAS has approved your application and will provide financial assistance for your studies.

Receiving a "Funded" status signifies you've met the eligibility criteria for NSFAS funding. This includes:

  • South African citizenship or permanent residency
  • Enrollment (or planned enrollment) at a public university or TVET college
  • Financial need as determined by NSFAS assessment

What To Do After Receiving A "Funded" Status

  1. Confirm Registration with Your Institution: This is crucial! NSFAS needs confirmation that you've officially registered at your chosen institution. Contact your institution's financial aid office to ensure they receive your registration details.

  2. Update Your Banking Details: Ensure NSFAS and your institution has your correct banking information for seamless disbursement of funds. You can usually update these details through the myNSFAS portal.

Applicants are urged to continuously check their NSFAS status to keep up-to-date with the progress of their NSFAS application.
